HISTORY

Akdeniz University Faculty of Architecture includes the Departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City and Regional Planning and Industrial Design within the framework of the "Basic Field of Architecture, Planning and Design" determined by the Council of Higher Education.

Undergraduate education is continuing in the Departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Architecture, City and Regional Planning of our faculty. The Department of Industrial Design will also become operational when the necessary academic, administrative and physical infrastructure is provided.

Within the scope of postgraduate education affiliated to the Institute of Science of our university, Architecture, Landscape Architecture and City and Regional Planning Master's and Doctorate programs with thesis and Interior Architecture Master's programs with thesis continue their activities. In addition, there is a Non-Thesis Master's Program in Architecture, Planning and Design open to the application of undergraduate graduates within the framework of the Basic Field of Architecture, Planning and Design.

The undergraduate program of the Department of Landscape Architecture of our faculty first started its activities within the Faculty of Agriculture in 1995, the undergraduate program of the Department of Interior Architecture in 2000, the undergraduate program of the Department of Architecture in 2011 within the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the undergraduate program of the Department of City and Regional Planning in 2017 within the Faculty of Architecture.

The establishment of the Faculty of Architecture at our University was approved by the Senate of our University in January 2015 with the aim of ensuring a healthier functioning of education and training in the Departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the Basic Field of Architecture, Design and Planning, and to meet the needs of academic staff, administrative staff, technical equipment and spatial infrastructure more quickly. In the same year, the Faculty of Architecture was established at Akdeniz University in line with this decision approved by the Council of Higher Education and the Council of Ministers.  Thus, the Departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture, which were previously operating under the Faculty of Fine Arts, and the Department of Landscape Architecture, which was previously operating under the Faculty of Agriculture, were affiliated to the Faculty of Architecture, and the Departments of City and Regional Planning and Industrial Design, which were not previously available at our University, were established under the same Faculty.
